Financial Freedom: Marathon not a Sprint

I have heard that if it is quick and easy, it is not worth it. That is the case whether it is a get rich quick scheme or a rapid weight loss diet. Now I have seen many people who latch onto these fads and some have great results so much so that they make me think that I am doing something wrong. However, inevitably, after a few months, they have fallen off the wagon and they have moved on to the next best thing.

I literally knew someone who went from being a vegan to an all-meat ketogenic diet. The weight loss was incredible, however within 6 months, she had regained all of the weight she lost plus more. Now I have also witnessed the exact opposite where people have put in countless hours at the gym and planned every meal and the results are even more amazing and they last!

Getting out of debt is the same way. To get the results you want, you have to go hard and fight. There will be days that it will get hard. You will fall and overspend. You will want to give up and just be normal but you have to keep pushing and don’t give up. There is a finish line and no matter how far away you may be, if you keep going, you will reach it.

While I often talk about different tips and strategies to keep you motivated, it means nothing until you actually jump in the race. I know you may be waiting for the perfect time but like Mel Robbins says, there is no perfect time. You have to just get up and do it. If you want out of being normal, then start now. No matter where you start, just start.

Once you leave the starting block, keep running until the race is over. Most importantly, take time to enjoy the journey. Remember that where you are won’t last always. Don’t wish away the time or the seasons of your life. They are given to you for a purpose. You will grow tremendously and you will have experiences that you may not have had otherwise.

Imagine the time that you will now spend with your family over home-cooked meals instead of ordering takeout. Imagine planning creative vacations that stay within your budget instead of just blowing your money on whatever the travel agent says is the way to go. Imagine creating handcrafted gifts to your friends that speak to their individuality instead of just picking up yet more Bath and Body Works. There are memories to be made during the journey and I want you to enjoy each and every step.

This is a marathon, not a sprint.
